SSC CHSL Typing Test, Skill Test 2021 | SSC Tier 3 Typing All Details

Staff Selection Commission (SSC) conducts Combined Higher Secondary (CHSL) (10 + 2) Level examination for the posts like Lower Divisional Clerk (LDC)/ Junior Secretariat Assistant (JSA), Postal Assistant (PA)/ Sorting Assistant (SA) and Data Entry Operator (DEO) in Government of India and their attached, subordinate ministries/ departments/ offices.

Friends, as you may know, SSC CHSL is a three Tier exam. In Tier-1, you have to take part in an online exam which includes multiple choice questions whereas, Tier-2 includes a descriptive paper in Hindi/ English. 

After passing the SSC CHSL Tier 1 and Tier 2 examinations, you will have to pass the Tier 3 exam, which will be your last step towards a government job. Tier 3 is required only for DEO, LDC, Court Clerk and Postal Assistant / Sorting Assistant candidates.

Two types of tests are taken by SSC in the final stage Tier 3, these are Skill Test and Typing Test. But candidates are not required to give both tests. Either they have to give skill test or just typing test. And if they clear the cutoff and they are eligible, they can take both tests.

By reading the following paragraph, You will know which test to give to which category student.

For LDC / JSA & Postal / Sorting Assistant, you have to give CHSL typing test. Whereas, for Data Entry Operator (DEO), you have to give SSC skill test.

SSC CHSL Typing Test Complete Details

Typing test will be the final stage for LDC / JSA & Postal / Sorting Assistant candidates. In this last stage, the candidates have to pass the typing test. Only after this, candidates will be able to fulfill their dream of getting a government job under the Government of India.

#Note: SSC CHSL Typing exam is qualifying only.

The medium of typing test for SSC CHSL will be in both Hindi and English languages. You can select either of these languages ​​for typing test. But you have to make this choice while filling the form, during the original typing exam you do not get the option of selection.

It will be a computer-based exam to test candidates typing speed and accuracy. Applicants must type the given text paragraphs in a 10 minute time period.

Candidates opting for English medium should have a typing speed of 35 words per minute (w.p.m.). A typing speed of 35 w.p.m means that you will need about 1750 key depressions in 10 minutes.

Whereas candidates opting for Hindi medium should have a typing speed of 30 words per minute (w.p.m.). A typing speed of 30 w.p.m means that you will need about 1500 key depressions in 10 minutes.

Your typing speed depends on how many words you have typed with accuracy from the passage given in 10 minutes. You must try to type the given passage with the maximum accuracy in the given time.

Important points to note for SSC CHSL Typing Test

1: For Physically Handicapped candidates, who claim they are permanently unfit to take the typing test due to physical disability, with prior approval of the Commission, can be exempted from the need to appear and qualify the typing test. Provided that such
candidate submits a certificate in a prescribed format to the Commission from a Government Medical Authority in which he has been declared permanently unfit for typing test due to physical disability.

2: Passage dictators will be provided to those VH candidates for Typing test who have opted for Scribe in the online application form. The passage dictator will read the passage given to the VH candidate within the allotted time period. And additional time of 5 minutes will also be given to the eligible candidates for Scribe. Therefore the duration of typing test for such candidates will be 15 minutes.

3: Before the actual typing test, candidates will get a 10 minute demo test. This is definitely a commendable step taken by the Commission. During this demo test you can understand the typing test interface, you can check all the keys of the keyboard to see if it is working properly, so that during the actual typing You should not have any discomfort.

If you have any problems with the keyboard or system, you can ask the invigilator to change the keyboard.

4: After the demo test, you will get a break of 3 minutes, only after that you will have a 10 minute original typing test. After the typing test is over, you will get 3 more minutes for self-verification.

5: No special characters are given in the Typing test, only basic characters are given. So there is no need to worry about whether typing paragraphs will be difficult or not.

6: Backspace is allowed to be used during the typing test. If you have made a mistake, you can use the backspace to correct your mistake.

7: If the candidates complete the SSC CHSL typing test before the given time, then they can check the errors in their typed paragraph. Do not attempt to retype the given paragraph.

8: After completion of Typing test, candidates are asked to write all the letters in their respective handwriting on an A-4 size paper sheet, and sign it and submit it to the invigilator.

SSC CHSL Skill Test Complete Details

SSC CHSL skill test will be the last step for Data Entry Operator (DEO) candidates. Its language will be in English, meaning the matter provided you to type in exam will be in English only.

# Note: SSC CHSL skill test is qualifying only.

The skill test for DEO in departments other than CAG would be to type a printed paragraph in English in 15 minutes with approximately 2000–2200 key-depressions, i.e you would have to keep your typing speed at about 30 wpm.

While the skill test for DEO in CAG department will involve typing a printed paragraph in English in 15 minutes with approximately 3700-4000 key-depressions, i.e you have to keep your typing speed at about 54 wpm.

Important points to note for SSC CHSL skill test

1: Each candidate will be given printed text which has to be typed in the computer. A paragraph to be typed can also be displayed on a computer screen.

2: Any candidate (including PwD) who will pass the SSC CHSL written test will not be exempted from the skill test, as passing the skill test is a pre-requisite qualifications required for the post of data entry operator.

3: But for the skill test, VH candidates will be provided with passage dictators those who have opted for Scribe in the online application form. The passage dictator will read the passage given to the VH candidate within the allotted time period. And additional time of 5 minutes will also be given to the eligible candidates for Scribe. Therefore the duration of skill test for such candidates will be 20 minutes.

4: Backspace is allowed to be used during the typing test. If you have made a mistake, you can use the backspace to correct your mistake.

5: If the candidates complete the SSC CHSL typing test before the given time, then they can improve their test. Do not attempt to retype the given paragraph.

Method of evaluation of errors in SSC CHSL Skill Test / Typing Exam

FULL MISTAKE

 

Any omission of word/figure .

For Example -I am going to Market.

Typed – I am going Market.

“To” ommited while typing means 2 error will be counted.

Adding any extra word/figure.

Typed – I am going to the Market.

“The” is not there in statement so 3 error will be counted.

Any substitution of word /figure.

Typed – I will be going to Market.

“will be” treated as substitution of “am” so 2 error will be calculated.

Extra space is also error.

 

HALF MISTAKE

 

Missing space

Example -—I am goingto market.

“goingto” is an mistake and it contains 7 letters means 7/2 =3.5 mistake will be counted.

Adding space

Example —Iam_g oing to market.

“g oing” will be treated as mistake and it contains 5 letters means 5/2=2.5 mistakes will be counted

Wrong capitalisation

Example —I Am going to market.

“Am” will be counted as mistake and it contains 2 letters means 2/2 = 1 mistake will be counted.

Spelling Error

Example – Iam going to markett.

“markett” will be counted as error and it contains 5 letters means 5/2 =2.5 mistake will be counted.

 

ERROR PERCENTAGE CALCULATION

= Total (full + half) mistakes / Total key Depressions x 100

Example — full mistake -80

half mistake -25

total mistake -105

Total key Depressions -1750

105/1750×100= 6 percent error

Keyboard layout instructions for SSC CHSL Hindi typing test

In consultation with the Department of Information and Technology and Department of Official Language, SSC has decided that only Mangal font will be used for all skill tests in Hindi.

Candidates will be allowed to choose one of the following two Mars keyboard layouts at the beginning of the typing test.
